Clarence O. Douglas, 69, of Ivydale fell asleep in the Lord Jesus Christ and is awaiting his second coming for the resurrection of the dead, on Monday, October 17, 2011, after a long illness.
Clarence retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1982, at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, after more than 20 years of service. He then served as a Deputy Sheriff in Clay County before being elected Sheriff in 1988. He served two terms in that office. Clarence finished his career as a Unit Manager for the West Virginia Division of Corrections and retired in 2003. He was a member of the Ottervale Advent Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hester Douglas, and his grandmother, Ivy Pearl Bragg. He is survived by this wife, Jannette; his son, Brad; his daughter, Amanda; his brothers, Carroll and wife Doris, Samuel and wife Sandy; his sisters, Evelyn and her husband Jim Boone, Margaret and her husband Howell Delashment, and Genelle and her husband Paul Flippin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Wilson-Shamblin-Smith Funeral Home, Clay. Burial will be in Starcher Cemetery, Big Otter.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 Wednesday at the funeral home.
