Mrs. Thelma Ireda Jones, 89, of Clay, passed from this life to her home in Heaven on April 6, 2010, after a long battle with Parkinsons.
Born on November 14, 1920, in Nicholas County, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Chessie Ramsey. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald "Firpo" Jones; grandson, Jamie Gency; three brothers, Robert, Dana and Damond Ramsey and three sisters, Jean Asbury, Oleta Nichols and Juanita Legg.
Thelma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her sons; Gary Jones and wife, Libby, of Hurricane, Joe Jones and wife, Bertha, of Red House; daughters, Jackie Hoffman and husband, Pat, of Summersville and Sharon Gency and husband, John, of Elkview. Thelma was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Burnell Ramsey of Salisbury, NC, Mike Ramsey of Cortland, NY, Jim Ramsey of Sterling, OH, David Ramsey of Hinesville, GA and Larry Ramsey of Clay; sisters, Bonnie Price of Clay and Roma Davis of Lake Wells, FL; special friends, Frank and Marion Walker of Clay and Jane and Kate Steele of Gallipolis, OH.
Thelma graduated from Clay County High School and was a life long resident of Clay County. She worked at several businesses in Clay and was a member of Fairview Baptist Temple. Thelma loved family dinners, working in her flower garden and shopping with her daughters and Marion.
A special "thank you" to the personnel at Laurel Nursing and Rehab Center for the kindness and care given to Thelma during her stay there.
Funeral service will be l pm Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Wilson-Shamblin-Smith Funeral Home, Clay, with Pastor Dennis Legg officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore.
Visitation of family and friends will be held two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
