Laura Edith Martin, 81, of Spencer, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Women's and Children's Hospital in Charleston.
Born December 15, 1930 in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Cassie Cadle Tanner. In addition to her parents Laura was also preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Buchannon Miller, brother, Lester Tanner, sisters, Ruby Moore, Lakie Martin, Della Linkinoggor and Effie Butcher.
First and foremost, she was a born again Christian and a member of Boggs Fork Community Church, Spencer. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and spending time with her family who were the love of her life. She retired from Spencer State Hospital after 20 years of service.
Laura is survived by her husband, Melvin Martin, sons, Gary Hathaway of Spencer, Jack Linkinoggor and his wife Marsha of Peniel, daughters, Eunice King of Spencer, Sue Jett of Looneyville, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, sister-in-law, Violet Tanner and several nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Wilson-Shamblin-Smith Funeral Home, Clay.
Graveside service will follow at the Martin family cemetery in Ivydale with Pastor Russell Stump of Spencer and Dr. Bill Jones of Letcher, KY officiating.
