Hattie Elizabeth Lanham Smith, 88, of Ovapa was joyously welcomed home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the home of her daughter.
She was born June 26, 1922 in Kanawha County, WV to the late Ranson "Sonny" and Dovie Fields France. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husbands, Christopher C. Lanham and Alonzo L. Smith, step-son, Randall Lanham; daughter, Argyle Jean Prysi; brothers, Otho and Hershel France; sisters, Maycel Rollins and Dorothy Rhodes; grandson, Scott C. Lanham.
She was a retired cook for Clay County Schools having worked for Valley Fork Elementary and Clay Middle Schools. She also was a faithful active member of Valley Ridge Methodist Church, House of Prayer and was a gracious Pastors wife of the Laurel Fork Baptist Church. She was a dedicated Mother, Grandmother and Neighbor.
She is survived by sons, Robert L. (Sharon) Lanham and David Lanham both of Valley Fork, Paul Lanham of Lakeland FL, Rodney (Debbie) Lanham of Plant City, FL; Stepson Bill ( Lois) Lanham of Smith Bottom, daughters, Mary (Steve) Stanley of Maysel, Shirley (Ted) Keiffer of Newton, Linda (Dale) Grose of Valley Fork, Betty Thompson of Spencer; stepdaughter, Ramona and Crystal, brothers, Chester France of Poca and Junior France of Big Tyler; sister, Gladys Dickerson of Poca River Road; 24 Grandchildren, 35 Great-Grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 12:30 PM Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Maysel with Rev. James Paxton and Rev. Clifford Samples officiating. Burial will follow in the Lanham Cemetery, Valley Fork. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
