Constance (Connie) Fay Wellen Pierson, a former resident of Weston, Died December 7, 2019 at her home in Bridgeport, West Virginia.  She was born on April 24, 1927 in Morgantown, West Virginia to the late Clyde William Wellen and Josephine Lehner Wellen.
Connie married her husband, Robert C Pierson, Jr on November 23, 1947. She is survived by her husband, and her two children and their spouses Patricia Ferrebee (Mack of Waterford, Ohio and Robert C. Pierson III (Vicki) of Walkersville, West Virginia. She is also survived by her brother, William Wellen of Houston, Texas and her brother-in-law, William David Pierson, of Clay, West Virginia.
Connie has four grandchildren, Patricia’s children-Wayne Ferrebee of New York, New York and Caroline Miller (Andy) of Columbia, Maryland and Robert’s children, Rachel Young (Steve) of Ann Arbor, Michigan with three great grandchildren-Ike, Jay and Robby and Julia Serynek( Matt) of Tampa, Florida with two great grandchildren- Cole and Keogh.
Connie’s gather was a career Army Officer and she lived in many places as she was growing up in the years before and during World WarII.  She is graduated from Anniston High School in Anniston, Alabama in 1944.  She spoke many times of her memories of Pearl Harbor day. Her father was at that time stationed in Alaska and she her mother and brother were living in Seattle, Washington. She remembered in vivid detail the fear that gripped the West Coast cities following that fateful day and she spoke many times of living in Seattle with Curfews in place and the city blackened out to help avoid enemy attack in the months following the Pearl Harbor attack.
After graduating from high school, Connie returned to West Virginia and attended West Virginia University where she met her husband of 72 years, Bob. Following their marriage in 1947 she accompanied her husband on a number of overseas assignments during his time with the U.S. Department of State. In particular she enjoyed her time as a young married woman during their time in Indonesia in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s.  She spoke fondly many times of this period of her life. One of her most vivid memories of this time was her participation with her husband and others in the climbing of Gunung G’day a large volcanic mountain in Indonesia.  After returning from Indonesia, as time permitted she completed her Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Maryland.  During this period of her life other overseas tours included assignments for Bob her husband in East and West Africa.
In 1963 she returned to Clay, West Virginia with her two children while her husband Bob remained overseas.  During the next ten years she taught French and English at Clay County High School. In 1974 Following her husband Bob’s retirement they settled in Deale, Maryland where they remained until 1998 when they moved to Weston, West Virginia.  In 2014 they moved to Bridgeport, West Virginia.
Funeral Services for Constance will be Thursday December 12, 2019 at 12:00  P.M. at Wilson-Smith Funeral Home with Minister Aaron Ramsey and Dennis Legg officiating.  Friends may come Wednesday December 11, 2019 for visitation from 4:30 to 6:30 at Wilson-Smith Funeral Home.
