Carolyn Davis

Carolyn M. Davis, 83, of Ivydale, WV, went to be with her heavenly father on December 9, 2023, after a difficult battle with cancer.  

Carolyn was born in Charleston, WV., on February 9, 1940. In 1974, she joined the Army and made headlines as the first grandmother, at age 34, to enlist at the Beckley, WV location. She was stationed in and served for four years at Fort Gordon, GA., where she received an honorable discharge. After her service, she received her LPN degree. 

She is preceded in death by her mother, Kathleen M. Drake, and her son, Michael D. Drake.

She is survived by her daughter, Mitzie S. Foster of Ivydale, WV, first cousin Lowell Drake of Dundon, WV, two grandchildren: Jessica R. (Teroy) Friend and Joshua M. Adkins, her three great-grandchildren: Harper Cooper, Jason ‘Kole’ Friend, and Meelah Friend.

The family would like to express our thanks for the kindness and care of Nurse Angie from Hospice of Summersville.  

A graveside service for family and close friends will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 10:00am, at Dundon Cemetery. The service will be conducted by Johnny Foster.
