Derek Lee Smith

Derek Lee Smith, 28, of Ivydale, WV passed away on December 30, 2022. Born on January 20,1994.

Derek loved the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his nephews (Wesley, Walker and Wilder Smith).

He was preceded in death by his father James “Jamie” Franklin Smith. Two Grandpa’s, Henry “Bud” Smith and Bobby Lee Runion, aunt Debra Smith Thorton, Uncle Randy Lee Runion and cousins Molly Francis Smith and James “JW” William English III.

He is survived by his mother Rita Faye and stepfather Virgil Mullins of Georgia and his brother, Justin Scott Smith; 3 nephews, Wesley, Walker and Wilder; two grandmothers, Mary Jane Runion and Joyce Hickman Smith; aunts Kathy English, Molly Mullins and Jennifer Fugate; two favorite cousins, Jessica and Kristie and many more aunts and uncles, cousins who loved him dearly. He will be greatly miss by all who knew him.

The funeral service will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Wilson Smith Funeral Home Clay, WV, with Minister Matt Waskey officiating. Burial will follow in the Runion Cemetery on Blue Knob Road, Maysel, WV. Visitation will be one hour prior from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm for friends and family.
