Diann Marie (Brown) Legg

September 27, 1954 ~ June 24, 2023 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Diann Marie Legg

On June 24, 2023, Diann Marie Legg passed away peacefully at CAMC General Hospital due to injuries she suffered in an accident.

Diann was born in Cannelton, West Virginia to Clinton Ray and Margaret Brown on September 27, 1954.

She met the love of her life, Russell Brooks Legg, Jr. “R.B.”, at church where her father was the pastor. On January 19, 1974 they enjoyed their first date and on April 20th of that year he proposed marriage to her on a beautiful sunny Spring evening on a stroll on the carriage trail at Sunrise mansion. His love letters to her were always addressed “To The Most Beautiful Woman in the World, c/o Diann Brown” (which embarrassed her greatly!)

They married on July 20, 1974 (on a shoestring budget!) and were off to Morgantown, West Virginia for R.B.’s last year at West Virginia University School of Dentistry. She worked in the lab at Monongalia General Hospital as a Phlebotomy Specialist while he completed his requirements for his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.

Diann will always be remembered as an early riser and a hard working individual, often volunteering for weekend duty and working holidays since she was their sole provider of income that year.

After graduation, she and her husband established their dental practice in Clay, West Virginia where she was his personal assistant and eventually office manager, retiring in 2011.

Diann was an avid reader, and enjoyed cooking, decorating, traveling (especially to the Rocky Mountains and Hawaii), working with her husband in their beautiful flower gardens and attending church services. She is a member of the Buffalo Valley Baptist Church in Clay, West Virginia. She always stressed academics, persistence and determination to her three children who hold degrees from five different educational institutions. One daughter, Lydia, is currently an attending physician at Harvard University Medical Center and Massachusetts General Brigham.

Besides her husband of 49 years she is survived by her three children, Jeanne Carson (Eric), Dr. Lydia Legg, James Brooks Legg, and two grandchildren, Sierra Lowther and Tyler Carson. Also two sisters, Donna Clonch (George), Linda King, and a brother, Ray Dewayne Brown.

The family would especially like to thank Dr. Paul Paik and his nurse Rizalita Santillan of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City for the extraordinary care provided for our beloved wife and mother and for the special relationship we developed.

Graveside Service will be 10:00 am, Thursday June 29, 2023, at Clay Memorial Gardens, Clay, WV, with Ministers, Douglas Newell IV, and John Pruitt.

In lieu of flowers the family request contributions in Diann’s memory to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, P.O. Box 5028, Hagerstown, MD 21741-9901 or online where special arrangements have been made to multiply gifts five items.
