Doris June Metheney, 75, of Ivydale, West Virginia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 17, 2026, after an extended illness.
Doris was born on March 31, 1951, the daughter of the late Benjamin Clyde Hicks and Lula Boggs Hicks. She loved reading, puzzles, hosting holiday gatherings, and was happiest when spending time with her family. Doris was known, above all, for her kind spirit, strength, and life-long commitment to serving and caring for others. She approached every day with determination and humor and never failed to make those around her feel valued and important. She was “Mom” and “Nana” to many and a loyal friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved daughters Mary Metheney Hammack of Spencer and Tina Craddock (Spencer) of Ivydale, cherished grandchildren Corie Whiting (Brandyn), Nathan Berry (Grace), Caden Berry, Tyler Hammack, and Dylan Hammack (Alexis), and great- grandchildren Lillian and Brock Whiting. Additionally, she is survived by siblings Deane Drake, Billy Hicks (Jane), and Barto Hicks (Shawn), along with several nieces and nephews who loved her very much.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband and best friend of fifty years, Ernest “Buck” Metheney. She is also preceded in death by her sisters Dottie Vaughn, Debra Isaac, and Dorcas Hicks.
Her request for cremation has been honored by her family, and a private service will be held at a later date.
The family of Doris Metheney would like to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Roane General Hospital Oncology, Acute Care, Medical Clinic, and Emergency Departments, who provided love, kindness, and compassion during her treatment journey. The family would also like to thank Wilson Smith Funeral Home for assisting our family with arrangements.
