James was an Army veteran. He was a graduate of West Virginia University and the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He interned at St. Mary's Hospital, in Huntington, and did his surgery residency at CAMC Memorial Division. After practicing surgery in Charleston for over twenty years, he returned to his beloved roots in Clay County, WV. where he started a family practice in his boyhood home. He retired in 2006, having touched the lives of many.
He was an avid gardener, hunter, fisherman, farmer, and entrepreneur. He was a loving husband, dad, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his family. He will be remembered for his infinite generosity, his gift for healing, and most of all for the love and care he provided for his family. We are comforted in knowing we will be reunited in heaven.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 24 at Wilson-Shamblin-Smith funeral home with pastors Wilma Dobbins and Gary Kendall officiating. The burial will follow in the Douglas Cemetery, Ivydale, WV.
