Gloria Jean (Laxton) Sears

On Monday, February 20, 2023, Gloria Jean Sears, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away at the age of 59.

Gloria Jean Sears was born on February 8, 1964, in Gassaway WV to Romas and Margaret (Duncan) Laxton. She worked at Big Otter Elementary as a teacher aid for many years. On June 08, 2000, she married Gregory Monroe Sears. They had a daughter Megan Renee Sears, and a son James Dalton Sears.

Gloria was preceded in death by her father, Romas, and her mother, Margaret, her sister Sandra Gill, and her brother, Ernest Laxton.

She is survived by her husband Greg, her children Megan and James, her mother-in-law Linda Taft, brothers, Tommy Laxton, and Rodney (Jane) Laxton; Sisters, Eva (David) Altizer, Rita (Gary) Payne, Teresa (Richard) Drake and Nancy Laxton and several cousins, nieces, nephews.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, February 25, 2023, a viewing for the family and friends will be from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, at Wilson Smith Funeral Home, Clay, WV, with Rev. David Altizer officiating. Burial will follow in the Moorefork Cemetery, located at Moorefork, WV.

The Family would like to invite her family and friends to gather at the Big Otter Elementary School for a celebration of Gloria’s life after the burial service.
