Gory “Gene” McLaughlin, 83, of Charleston, WV, formerly of Ivydale, WV, passed away January 1, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him. Gory “Gene” was born March 8, 1941, in Ward, WV to Effie Emogene Lantz McLaughlin and Gory Golden McLaughlin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Larry Dean McLaughlin, nephew Terry Allen McLaughlin, granddaughter-in-law Jamanda Rollyson Moore and great granddaughter Emelia Jane Moore.
He leaves behind his wife of 60 years Joan Gay Smith McLaughlin, daughter Genalee McLaughlin Moore (Richard), grandsons Tyler Moore, Aaron Moore and Caleb Moore, sister Fran King (Danny McCoy), sister-in-law Joyce McLaughlin, brother-in-law Richard “Dickie” Smith (Melanie) and nieces and nephews.
Gene retired from Union Carbide in South Charleson where many knew him as “Buffalo” and from Cleveland Plant and Flower Company in Charleson where many called him “Dilly”.
Per Gene’s wishes he will be cremated and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston, WV.
There will be a Celebration of Life Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Valley Christian Assembly, 1703 Bigley Avenue, Charleston, WV. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Valley Christian Assembly.
