James Michael Taylor

James M. Taylor, 82, of Wallback, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, following a long battle with congestive heart failure.

Born on February 21, 1944, James was the son of the late Jewell Holly Taylor and Freda Taylor of Bickmore, West Virginia. He was also preceded in death by his son, Robin Neal; brothers, Calvin Taylor and Kenneth Taylor; and sister, Nadine Shelton.

James shared a beautiful love story with his beloved wife, Dortha Vae Taylor, whom he married on November 1, 1975. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and devotion to one another. Their marriage was a shining example of enduring love.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Dortha Vae Taylor of Wallback, West Virginia; brother, Homer (Brenda) Taylor of Flint, Michigan; and sister, Iris (Randall) Estep of Fayetteville, West Virginia.

He is also survived by his children: James M. Taylor Jr. of Elyria, Ohio; Natalie Taylor of Norwalk, Ohio; Freda Gay Heart; Joseph Taylor of St. Louis, Missouri; Scotty Nottingham of Bickmore, West Virginia; Aaron Taylor of Bickmore, West Virginia; David (Susie) Neal of Bickmore, West Virginia; and Danny (Cindy) Neal of Clay, West Virginia.

James was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved with his whole heart. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family and watching future generations grow.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, James faithfully served his country before dedicating 32 years of service to the children and families of Clay County as a Clay County Schools bus driver. He was known throughout the community for his kindness, dependability, and willingness to help others, especially the elderly.

James had a deep love for bluegrass gospel music and was an astounding player of the French harp. Whether sharing music, lending a helping hand, or spending time with family, he touched countless lives through his generosity, compassion, and gentle spirit.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at CAMC memorial for the compassionate and exceptional care they provided during James's final days. Their kindness, dedication, and efforts to keep him comfortable brought great comfort to both James and his loved ones during a difficult time. The family is deeply appreciative of the dignity, respect, and genuine compassion shown throughout his care.

Above all else, James was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend. His legacy of love, service, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

The family finds comfort in the promise of John 14:1-3, knowing that the Lord has prepared a place for those who love Him and that James has entered his eternal home.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Thursday June 11, 2026, at Wilson-Smith Funeral Home in Clay, West Virginia, visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm at the funeral home with his grandson, Justin Neal, officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore, WV.
