June Walker Reckell of Clay, WV born August 9th, 1936, died April 19th, 2024 – age 87.
She was the 8th child born to Homer and Hester Walker of Indore, WV – down 13 creek crossings on Big Sycamore Creek in a log cabin. She went to elementary school on Big Sycamore Creek, then graduated from Clay High School.
During high school, the kids would walk down to the mouth of Big Sycamore to the Elk River, then catch a little boat that Mary Harold would then row across the Elk River to the awaiting school bus. The winters of frozen ice were quite frightening in that little boat!
Homer liked to call her Junie. She lived in many places but wanted to be buried in the Arbogast family cemetery on Beechy Ridge in Indore.
June is preceded in death by her parents Homer and Hester Walker; brothers Thomas, Robert, Bill, Richard and Roland; her sisters Edna and Frankie. Also, her son John Reckell and grandson Ryan Reckell.
She is survived by her sister Shirley Reedy Walker (Paul), Genevieve Vance Walker (Roland). Her daughter Tammy Reckell Tracy (Patrick) and her ex-husband George. Grandkids; Aaron Reckell, Chaz Reckell, Zachariah Menard, Tyler Reckell, Cory Reckell and Maci Reckell. Along with many loving nieces and nephews. Also, a special loving to Cassie Lane her caretaker and friend.
