Opal Marie Greathouse Boggs, age 86, died peacefully surrounded by loving family on September 9, 2008.
Born July 8, 1922, in Widen, WV and married September 27, 1941, to Manning Alden Boggs (deceased 1996), she enjoyed an active life raising and providing for her eight children. Always an elegant lady she had a great love of nature and family and her home state of West Virginia. With her beloved husband, she was active in state politics and community service. They traveled extensively through out the country, often with her dear sisters, visiting their many brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins to whom she was very special. Upon retirement they returned to their beloved Clay County and built a home on the beautiful Elk River. In the last few years she made her home at Regency Place Assisted Living and Tenderheart Personal Care Home where she made many new and dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Manning Alden Boggs, her very dear and special son, Michael D. Boggs; her parents Orville and Grace Douglas Greathouse; her much loved sisters Icie Patton and Goldie Morris and brothers James "Bub" Greathouse and Donald Greathouse.
She is survived by her sons Manning Alden Boggs Jr. and wife Delyse of Tampa, FL; James Douglas Boggs and wife Julie of St. Albans, WV; Terry Boggs and partner Carol Bartlett of St. Albans, WV; Jerry Boggs and wife Barbara of Ripley, WV; and Gregory Boggs and wife Mary of Georgia. Daughters Diane Head-Pendleton and husband Donald of Islesboro, ME; Susan Pendleton and husband Harris of Belfast, ME and daughter-in-law Margaret Boggs of St. Albans, WV. Nineteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Sister Sylvia June Greathouse Hathaway of Melbourne, FL and sister-in-law Josephine Greathouse of Pt. Pleasant, WV.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 13, 2008, at noon at the Boggs Family Cemetery on the Virgil Nelson Farm, Maysel, WV, followed by a celebration of her life picnic and family reunion at Spread Park, Route 4, Ivydale, WV.
