Rachel "Linda" Rhodes

Rachel “Linda” Stewart Rhodes, of Clay, daughter of the late Clifford and Gay Stewart, entered into rest on September 11, 2025, at the age of 79.

Linda was a creative and talented artist with special skills in painting, ceramics, and sewing. Affectionately known as “Nanny” to hundreds of Clay County 4-H youth, she was an active member in the West Virginia 4-H Leaders Association and a volunteer at the annual county 4-H camp for more than 40 years. Linda loved Clay County and was active in efforts to improve the community, which included previous service on the Clay County Business Development Authority Board and the Central Appalachia Empowerment Zone Board.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Logan Mead “Skip” Rhodes, Jr and her siblings Paul, Wayne, Carl, Reva, Alice, Betty, Norma, and Frances.

She is survived by her sons Logan Mead Rhodes, III (wife, Debra) of Clay and Kyle Stewart Rhodes (wife, Toni) of Scottsville, VA, her daughter Melissa June Rhodes McLaughlin (husband, Rodney) of Clay, her brother, John Stewart (wife, Beverly) of Clay and her sister Nona Carte of Clay. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren with another on the way. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends that she graciously welcomed to her home.

Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Wilson Smith Funeral Home. Per her wishes, Linda will be cremated, and her cremains will be laid to rest at the Stewart Cemetery in Cove Hollow in Fola, WV.
