“To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.”
On, Thursday, May 22nd, 2025, Robert Glen Stalnaker of Wallback, WV left his earthly body to dwell in the hearts of his family and loved ones.
Born on October 24th, 1956, in Ohio, Robert was a longtime resident of WV and a true Mountaineer at heart. He loved the hills and hollers of his youth and no matter where he dwelled, he left a piece of himself there.
Some of you may have known him only, as ‘Squirrel’, a fun loving, often borderline inappropriate joke telling friend who would gladly help you out, if it was within his power.
To us he was just a dad, papaw, brother, uncle, once-upon-a-time husband, nephew and cousin; who loved old westerns and John Wayne. The Duke once said that “Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway.” Robert saddled up many times in his life; for himself, for his family and for his friends.
From his days on the high school wrestling mat to his years working for the CSX railroad, Robert maintained a staunch work ethic and took great pride in his accomplishments. But there was nothing he was prouder of than his children; Jessica S. Nuckles, Candice K. Stalnaker and Jeffrey G. Stalnaker, except perhaps his grandchildren. Max and Maggie Nuckles; Alaric Cook and Ayla Dabiri; Nova Rayne Thelma Stalnaker and River Glen James Stalnaker.
Robert was proceeded in death by his parents; Vodra A. Stalnaker and Betty L. Stalnaker. He is survived by his brother, James ‘Jimmy’ Stalnaker.
Robert will be remembered in a small, private ceremony and his ashes will be interred to the earth.
His love and light will be missed by many. If you are one of them, the family encourages you to leave a message or story here. We know that Robert touched many lives that even we are not aware of. All of us, create ripples in the world, our words and actions continuing through others, long after we’re gone. We’d like to think that Robert’s ripples will continue for many years to come.
“Whatever you want to do, do it now. There are only so many tomorrows.”
~ Michael Landon
