Harriette “TT” Virginia Smarr Sizemore

Harriette, 92, of Dixie, passed away peacefully at her home Friday, October 30, 2015, with husband and family by her side.

She was the second born February 20, 1923 in Belva; she was the daughter of the late Harry and Bertha (Hill) Smarr. She was also preceded in  death by her sisters, Billy Burke Smarr, Betty Perry Clonch, Helen “Dimple” Drennen, Hope Elswick and Joann Woods and her brother, Harry “Corky” Smarr.

Harriette is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 74 years, OT (Thearold) Sizemore; daughter, Virginia “Jenny” Mikula (Joe) of Sunrise, Florida; son; Ted Sizemore (Diane) of Port Richey Florida; sister, Mona Baker (Charley) of Dixie; sister-in-law Peggy Smarr of Fayetteville; special niece/caregiver Judy Cogar; grandson, Tait Sizemore (Sugar) of Alta; great-grandson (twins) Sean and Seth Sizemore; great-granddaughter, Bella Sizemore; step- great-granddaughter Alyson Westfall (Corey); step- great-great granddaughters, Kiera and Olivia Westfall; as well as multiple nieces and nephews.

She was a Christian and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Dixie where she served faithfully as secretary/treasurer until the time of her illness.

Harriette was retired United States Post Master with twenty three years of service.

Her compassion was being a 60 plus member of the Dixie COMMUNITY EDUCATIONAL OURTREACH SERVICE (CEOS which was formerly called Farm Women’s Club and Dixie Extension Homemakers).

Harriette exemplified grace under pressure and weathered challenges, in life, with incredible resilience.  That resilience was an inspiration and comfort for others.  She took particular care to stay connected to family and friends and served as the family historian and conduit for communication among families and generation.

Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Monday, November 2, 2015 at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, with Pastor Jeff Sevy officiating.  Interment will follow in Restlawn Gardens, Victor.

Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service, at the funeral home, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests  donations be made to the WV Chapter of the Alzheimer’s  Association of Charleston, or Hospice Center of Southern Beckley in her name.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time of sadness and loss. Harriette was the example of strength, determination, and dedication. Her love for her family was truly the purest example I've known of unconditional love. My thoughts are especially with OT, her children and grandchildren, and the rest of her family and friends.
